Growing in 3D: Jens’s Story
Growing in 3D
Jens’s Story
Jens Kautzor is our Additive Manufacturing Sales Engineer at Hartwig. Jens works with our customers to connect them with the AM equipment they need to bring innovative new designs to life. He also helps our customers evaluate whether industrial 3D printing is right for their operation, collaborating with our partners at EOS through the Additive Minds program. Jens joined Hartwig in December 2021, bringing over a decade of AM experience to our team. This is his story.
A Career Spanning the Atlantic
Jens hails from Nieheim, Germany, a small town south of Hanover that is world renowned for its specialty cheese. He first moved to the United States in the late 1990s, where he managed sales teams and key accounts for a few manufacturing companies before returning to Germany several years later. Back in Germany, Jens began his career in additive manufacturing in 2009, at first focusing on stereolithography (SLA) and polymers.
“At that time, selective laser sintering (SLS) technology didn’t do much metal,” Jens said. “It’s been fascinating to be part of how additive has evolved up until today, and it’s going to grow a lot more in the future.”
Life brought Jens back to the United States again in 2011, where he settled in Texas leading sales development for a German-owned company in electronics and HMI manufacturing. After a decade of success there, a mutual connection introduced Jens to Hartwig.
Joining the Hartwig Team
Upon joining Hartwig, Jens immersed himself in learning everything there is to know about our additive manufacturing solutions from EOS and Sodick. He took online education courses and traveled to EOS’s technical center in Austin where he underwent hands-on training. Still new to the team at the time of this writing, Jens spoke about his developing expertise: “There is a lot to learn but I’m absorbing everything I can. I’m thrilled to be the ‘face of additive’ here at Hartwig, and our core purpose of helping manufacturers control their destiny is very energizing to me.”
Sharing Perspective on the Future of Additive
Jens shares our belief that adoption of additive manufacturing will continue to grow in the coming years.
“The biggest drive of adoption in additive in the near future is likely supply chain issues,” Jens remarked. “It shortens time to market, reduces material usage, lessens the burden of inventory management…especially when it comes to things like replacement parts.”
Jens’s passion for state-of-the-art technology and helping manufacturers succeed is a perfect fit for Hartwig. We are grateful to have him on the team and are looking forward to seeing him help our customers elevate their capabilities and soar.
